Executive Summary

For those of us who live in Allegheny County, we are lucky to be immersed in beautiful sceneryand a rich history. Unfortunately the regional topography and geologic formations, as wellas the above-average age and poor condition of our housing stock, can also pose healthrisks to our residents. This paper focuses on factors that are common in the homes of thePittsburgh region, such as lead paint, radon, and moisture incursions that lead to mold. Westart by examining efforts to address these concerns that are currently underway in the City ofPittsburgh, Allegheny County, and the regional non-profit community.
